Our Story
We are passionate web artisans, committed to creating visually stunning and functional websites that captivate audiences and elevate businesses to new heights.
Whilst some household staff charge a lot more than others, we are happy to offer realistic guidance if you give us a call. Have a think about live in/live out, transport costs, hours and additional benefits (use of a car if in a rural location etc).
A tax calculation service is invaluable for the relatively small money it costs on an annual basis. They calculate the amount of employers tax, national insurance and employee’s tax required, and also if any additional tax payments are required for additional benefits.
They can even sort out pension payments (that you now legally have to make for your household staff if they earn over a certain amount). Emily has always used payefornannies.co.uk that she recommends highly. However others use Nannytax.co.uk and similar services with equal success.
We would always recommend a DBS check of any person you hire who has responsibility or proximity to children. We can help coordinate this once an offer has been made. There are a number of online services to guide you through the process. (Click the button below)
We are not legal experts, and we advise getting specific legal advice, but the following is our understanding.
Historically many household staff and their employers have had a more relaxed approach to contracting. Unfortunately times are changing and to protect both sides we would take a pretty cautious approach here as employment tribunals (for example) have reportedly increased awards against employers by up to 25% as a penalty for not conforming to current legislation.
All workers employed on or after 6th April 2020 will be entitled to a written statement of employment particulars (often called a contract). This must be provided to them on or before their first day of employment. As well as legal certainty putting key terms in writing also helps both sides to know expectations such as working hours, duties, living arrangements, and holiday terms. Employers need to have a contract covering key terms at the start of employment to avoid legal risks etc.
- Start date for commencement of employment
- Amount of pay (weekly/monthly)
- Job Title and Normal Hours of Work
- Sickness terms
- Pension
- Termination and Notice periods
- Holidays
- Dismissal and Disciplinary procedure
- A statement of house rules
- A general statement of duties
- A statement of what the employer would regard as misconduct
- Where the employer will live (if live in)
Then Two copies of the contract must be signed and dated by both the employer and the nanny and each should keep a copy.
We get to work as soon as a deposit is received to find the night member of your household staff. Realistically, depending on your ability to interview of course, you could expect to be interviewing candidates within 2 weeks.
Once the right person is found, they can sometimes start quickly or may have to leave a current position, which can take a month or so dependent on their notice period. It is good to remember that the strongest candidates may have numerous offers to decide between, so being decisive and fast acting can pay in dividends.
We work hard to support you here and get the candidate you want!
